It’s a mystery and one that researchers are still trying to solve in humans. It is known that dogs have an endocannabinoid, but it remains to be determined if CBD interacts with this system in the same way as experts believe in humans. The expert believes that CBD is metabolized in the liver in dogs just like it is in humans.
Is There Any Benefit To CBD For Your Pet’s Health?
Although the research is promising, it’s still early. A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study published in the journal Pain 2020 concluded that “Cannabidiol” has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It also significantly increased the mobility of large canines with osteoarthritis.
This research is a follow-up to a 2018 study that found CBD can increase comfort and activity for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.
CBD could reduce seizures in epileptic dogs. These studies were peer-reviewed and well-designed, but they are still very small and preliminary.
Expert says that all they did was give the drug to the dogs .We don’t know yet if the blood levels reached are sufficient to treat certain diseases.
Expert remains optimistic. These medications are not readily available for veterinarians. Some of them can cause weight gain or lethargy. Expert says that CBD for dogs could be effective if it works. That’s what we hope for.
Expert and other researchers across the country are currently conducting larger studies to determine CBD’s effectiveness for treating osteoarthritis, epilepsy, and post-operative pain in dogs and cats. However, it won’t be long before the results are published.
Before giving CBD to your pet, make sure you talk to your veterinarian.
Is CBD Safe To Use On Animals?
The expert did a simultaneous liver function test as part of her study. The results were normal. It’s not clear if the high ALP levels could have been caused by something benign or a more serious issue over time.
Expert says that CBD should not be given to dogs with liver problems. The expert also says that CBD is metabolized in the liver so she would be cautious about giving CBD to dogs who are already taking medication.
Quality control is another important thing pet owners should be aware of. The CBD market is not yet regulated. This means that CBD products may contain ingredients that aren’t listed on the labels.
Look for CBD pet products companies that support research. They will give a COA certificate for each batch of CBD products they sell.

To avoid potentially harmful ingredients, only use products with a certificate of analysis (the COA’s batch number should match that on the packaging or label). A COA is issued by an independent laboratory to verify the product’s potency and ingredients.
CBD products cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. This is legal and should be considered safe for animals. There’s no reason for you to gamble. Stick to CBD pet products that contain 0.0% THC whenever possible. Also, be aware of signs and symptoms of THC poisoning like vomiting, diarrhea, and restlessness.
